Why does rain water recharging wells get Contaminated ?

Rainwater recharging wells gets contaminated because rain picks up pollutants from the air (dust, gases, industrial chemicals) and surfaces (roofs, soil), which carry bacteria, pesticides, heavy metals, and organic matter as they percolate into the ground, overwhelming the natural filtration and introducing harmful substances directly into the aquifer, especially with improper well construction or nearby pollution sources like septic tanks or agricultural fields.

Sources of Contamination

1. Atmospheric Pollution :
